The agency reported it as the largest data clean-up project in SSA history.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced this week that it made substantial progress in improving the accuracy and integrity of the Social Security Number (SSN) database. The agency reported that this is one of the most comprehensive clean-up efforts in the SSA’s 91-year history, with corrections to nearly 15 percent of all active SSNs nationwide to date.
The SSA also added 17 million dates to death records that previously lacked this information, updated approximately 25 million records with citizenship information, corrected 8.5 million records that contained inaccurate citizenship status, and implemented stronger internal policies to prevent future inaccuracies.
“The Social Security Number database is our country’s books and records. The database’s accuracy is essential to maintaining integrity of government services for citizens,“ Commissioner Frank Bisignano stated. “Accurate SSN records prevent fraud across federal programs and support the proper administration of benefits. This is the first time SSA has undertaken an effort of this scale, and I am proud of the work we have done to strengthen the foundation of identity data relied upon throughout government and the economy.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Commissioner Bisignano as he oversees the continuing work to clean up the SSN database.
- For SSA personnel as they review, correct, and update massive amounts of citizens’ data.
